Santorini is a dream island.
You feel like you are hanging off the edge of the world.
The island was created by one of the largest volcanic explosions (which means black sand beaches!!) The natives move at the pace of island life, which is perfect for relaxing vacationers...
The rotation of the sun and moon were somehow more dramatic there. Naturally and immediately you become in-tune to the amazing power of nature.
Dani & I rented an ATV and took turns driving. It is so much fun tootin' around between beaches, towns and restaurants on an ATV. All of the tourists were happily scooting around on them & they were really cheap to rent- only 15
€ a day.
The roads to Oia, at the very north of the island, were suuuppperr windy. The kind of windy mountain roads where you if you fall off, that's it. On the midnight rides home from Oia, I crouched behind Dani trying to hide from the wind while admiring the reflection of the moon on the rippling water far below.
Not like they need me to toot their horn, but I loved using the Lonely Planet guide book. As far as the Greece edition went, we used it for everything except picking our hotels. The restaurants the guidebook recommended were sublime & the descriptions they give of all the cities and tourist sites were usually head on. We were able to find beautiful hotels at much cheaper prices via other recommendations. Especially because we went during low season.
